Why are you doing this?

It’s an exercise in vanity or possibly to exercise my vanity.

Where did the name come from?

Check out the About page. It basically derives from the desire to explore things by foot. I have the luxury of being in a great metropolitan area that can be accessed by foot.

What is this OSM/openstreetmap you keep talking about?
Openstreetmap is a project to provide free maps and geographical data to anyone who wants to use it. Most map data is not free. Maps provided by Google, Yahoo or Bing are owned by others and licensed very specifically for public use. All data and maps from OSM are licensed under Creative Commons and free to use under those terms. I’m a contributor to OSM. I’ve added some roads, walkways and trails. I’ve also corrected some data that was derived from the DOT. Some corrections I’ve made were street names that were wrong on Google Maps. Eventually, these names were updated on Google Maps and it is easy to do so, but the data is not free.
