Canstruction

By UrbanAnthropod, November 23, 2010 11:39 pm

The Winter Garden at the World Financial Center hosted an exhibit of sculptures made from canned foods. I rushed to the exhibit on Sunday since I knew the sculptures were destined fro dismantling the next day in preparation for Thanksgiving meals at city soup kitchens. While the exhibits in the Winter Garden are free to the public, there was a suggested donation of a can of food. Considering the cause and the fact that this season is usually successful at providing meals for the needy, it was a good idea.
World Trade Center construction

The Winter Garden sits in Battery Park City within the World Financial Center across the street from the World Trade Center. I haven’t been near the site for a few years and was surprised to finally see some progress in the rebuilding efforts. It has been 9 years, after all. The cranes and rising girders set a unique background for the elegant Winter Garden exhibition of “Canstruction”.
